Inventory Clerk

Position Summary

The Inventory Clerk is responsible for maintaining accurate inventory records and supporting inventory control processes within the organization. This role monitors stock levels, performs inventory transactions, conducts cycle counts, and helps ensure materials and products are received, stored, and issued accurately. The Inventory Clerk works closely with operations, purchasing, warehouse, and management teams to support efficient inventory management and maintain data integrity.

Key Responsibilities

Inventory Management

  • Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure data is updated promptly and accurately.
  • Monitor inventory levels and report shortages, discrepancies, or overstock situations.
  • Perform routine cycle counts and assist with physical inventory audits.
  • Investigate and resolve inventory variances.
  • Track inventory movements, transfers, adjustments, and stock transactions.

Receiving and Shipping Support

  • Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders and receiving documentation.
  • Record and process inventory receipts in inventory management systems.
  • Assist with the preparation and verification of outbound shipments.
  • Ensure products and materials are properly labeled and stored.
  • Coordinate with vendors, carriers, and internal departments regarding inventory-related issues.

Data Entry and Recordkeeping

  • Enter inventory transactions into inventory management software or enterprise systems.
  • Maintain accurate records of stock movements, receipts, returns, and adjustments.
  • Generate inventory reports and provide inventory data to management as requested.
  • Organize and maintain inventory documentation and records.

Inventory Control

  • Assist in implementing inventory control procedures and best practices.
  • Monitor stock locations and ensure proper storage and organization of materials.
  • Identify damaged, obsolete, expired, or excess inventory and report findings.
  • Support compliance with company policies, procedures, and inventory standards.
  • Help maintain inventory accuracy and operational efficiency.

General Support

  • Collaborate with warehouse, purchasing, production, and operations teams.
  • Assist with inventory-related projects and process improvements.
  • Support safety and housekeeping standards within storage and warehouse areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support inventory and operational goals.

Qualifications

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field preferred.

Experience

  • 1-3 years of inventory, warehouse, logistics, clerical, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience using inventory management, warehouse management, or ERP systems is a plus.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to perform data entry with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Basic understanding of inventory control and warehouse operations.

Working Conditions

  • Work may be performed in an office, warehouse, distribution center, manufacturing facility, or retail environment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting may be required.
  • May be required to move materials and perform physical inventory counts.
  • Use of computers, inventory scanners, and warehouse equipment may be required.
